Renowned Singer Sem Sangvath Dies at 48

Phnom Penh: A well-known Cambodian singer, Sem Sangvath has passed away on Friday at the age of 48. Sangvath is known for his songs about the life of the Cambodians. One of his many songs is the “Life of a Cross-Border Worker”. Sangvath’s eldest Son, Rathanak, has confirmed the demise of his father stating that he had been suffering from various illnesses such as liver disease, ulcer, and intestinal inflammation.

In the Facebook page of Sem Sangvath, his family had been asking help for the hospitalisation as the singer battles these diseases for quiet a long time. The last post on his social media page on Thursday shows Sangvath in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit, but sadly he died on Friday.

Rathanak has added that his father’s body is currently at Wat Teuk Thlar in Phnom Penh as the family holds a religious ceremony. The Cambodian people and all those who have known him for his great songs have expressed their condolences towards the bereaved family.
